Sultaniye Kaplıcaları

The history of Sultaniye hot springs at the foot of Ölmez Mountain in the southwest of Köyceğiz Lake dates back thousands of years.

The inhabitants of Kaunos used the springs long before our era, in the Byzantine period the area was expanded and accommodations were built. Already in Roman times people believed in the healing properties of the water in the area. At that time, these buildings were used as a hospital. According to historical sources, it was written at the entrance to the hospital: “For the sake of the gods, death must not come here”. The name of the neighboring mountain Ölmez, which means “The Immortal One”, is also based on this legend. The facilities that were once built have now sunk due to the accumulation of water in Lake Köyceğiz.

The Sultaniye hot spring is operated by the municipality of Köyceğiz. The 39 degree hot water is rich in calcium chloride, calcium sulfate, calcium sulfide and bromide. Another healing effect is attributed to the high content of slightly radioactive radon. The Sultaniye hot springs are used to treat diseases such as rheumatism, kidney and urinary tract diseases, metabolic disorders and mental exhaustion. The healing effect of the thermal water is also said to have been proven for skin diseases, gynecological problems and circulatory problems. As a cosmetic wellness program, on the other hand, visitors can take a bath in the coveted beauty mud. Applied to the body, it softens the skin and fights wrinkles. After an extensive healing and beauty program, the neighboring restaurant will provide all creature comforts.
