Dalyan is a district of Ortaca which itself is part of Muğla and borders on the shores of Lake Köyceğiz, also called Dalyan for short in Turkey.
The city lies on the main canal that connects Lake Köyceğiz with the Mediterranean Sea. Arrived at the sea there is the beach of Iztuzu, a heavenly sandy beach that invites you to swim, snorkel and surf and is also known for a great natural spectacle. Iztuzu Beach is one of the last beaches in the world where rare Caretta sea turtles lay their eggs, the adjacent turtle station is available for tours.
The area released for bathing and water sports is spacious, well closed to tourists and charming restaurants invite you to linger. Be sure to try the regional specialty Dalyan Blue Crab, the famous blue crab, freshly caught in the area of Dalyan.
A highlight is the ancient city of Kaunos with the remains of ancient buildings, the Lycian rock tombs and temples, which is also worth a visit.
With a big number of hotels, more than 20 restaurants, travel agencies and shops, Dalyan has both touristic offers, but always has its idyllic character and is ideal for nature lovers. The mild Mediterranean climate attracts visitors all year round, but the best season for a visit and most tourist offers can be found with the spawning season of the Caretta turtles in the months of June and July.
